In 1998, when all the smaller Police Services in the area amalgamated, a Mounted Unit was created for the ceremony. The Unit continued to thrive from that point. Our part - time mounted patrol runs from May 1st until the end of December each year. The horses can be seen at many events through-out Chatham Kent, and even make a few appearances farther away. Our highlight always being three days at the Tim Hortons Camp in Perry Sound. The campers area always very happy to have the horses as their special guests.
Riding with the unit is an exciting part of horse life. Training the horses for this special job is very rewarding. Once the horses catch on, they really love the challenge and especially the attention from the hundreds of children we meet. Russ and Jake are our regular mounts, with Blue having completed a few training duties in 2005. Rocky is still young, but in training and showing alot of promise. Buck and Stitch are now retired, but still available for the occational tour.
